Common Thread Quilt Guild

Benefits of Membership

The Common Thread Quilt guild is a not-for-profit organization. Our goal is to promote the art of quilting and to use quilting to respond to the needs of the community.

Our members benefit from:

  • an opportunity to meet with fellow quilters in an exchange of skills, ideas and friendship
  • monthly programmes featuring guest speakers, trunk shows, demonstrations, and the ever-popular “bring-and-brag”, where members show off their completed projects
  • workshops for all levels of quilters, from beginner to advanced
  • access to an extensive library of quilting books and magazines
  • monthly newsletter
  • community projects and guild-sponsored events and challenges
  • weekend retreats and in-town retreats
  • bi-annual quilt shows
  • contributing to the community

When can I join? –  Our membership year runs from July 1st to June 30th, but members can sign up anytime.

How much does it cost to join? – It costs $40 per year to be a member.

Non-members can still attend our guild meetings as guests (guest fee is $5) as well as attend workshops and retreats (if there is space).

Memberships for youth (17 and under) are free if a parent is a member. Please contact the Membership Coordinator

How to register:

    • Our membership is now available for purchase and renewal via this easy online membership form!
    • You can choose to automatically renew the membership.
    • You will receive a reminder before the membership expires (regardless if you have agreed to automatic membership).
    • Online registration
      • means you can register at any time (not just at meetings)
      • makes it easy for you and us to keep track of which memberships are still valid
      • reduces the administrative burden on volunteers by removing the need for cash floats and deposits

    • This online service is free for non-profits to use (and is used by another quilt guild in Ottawa); this saves our guild from paying for an expensive registration system and substantially raising membership fees. You can choose to include a small donation to help keep the service going.
    • The guild will use this online service for guild events as well.
    • The registration form is like many others you have probably used; you can just read what’s on the screen and make your choices. You can also view this slideshow with screenshots of the process.

    • Note: the text in the ‘media permission’ drop down reads as follows:
      choose either
YES, I agree to photographs/video recordings of myself and quilted items taken at the Common Thread Quilt Guild events to be used in our website, newsletter, promotional materials, and social media pages.
      OR
    • NO, I do not agree, AND I understand I am responsible for letting my wishes be known by wearing a lanyard (available at all events) that shows that I do not wish to be photographed.
